Pathology Image Detail

Caption

Colon: the colonic mucosa is focally thickened. The deep portions of the glands in this area show slightly increased basophilia compared to the adjacent colonic epithelium, which is indicative of hyperplasia. The upper portions of the glands in this area shows an area of neoplastic transformation characterized by the formation of anastomosed and contoured glands lined by a columnar epithelium and supported by a small to moderate amount of fibrovascular stroma. The epithelium of these neoplastic glands is more basophilic than the epithelium of the adjacent colonic glands. A few neoplastic glands are moderately distended by mucin. The surface epithelium of the adenoma is eroded. There is no evidence of invasion of the stroma or of the submucosa.
