Mammary gland: this is a nodular, encapsulated, well-delineated, densely cellular, expansile neoplastic mammary neoplasm, the margins of which are present on the section. The neoplasm is composed of closely-packed glands, a few solid areas, and a few papillary areas lined by a 1-3 cells thick epithelium supported by a small amount of fibrovascular stroma. Large areas of coagulation necrosis (*) are scattered throughout of the tumor (comedo pattern).
NOTE: Adjacent mammary ducts and acini are packed with cells which are histologically indistinguishable from the neoplastic cells of the main mass (in situ mammary adenocarcinoma). |
