This photomicrograph illustrates immunohistochemical labeling for keratin 14 of the junction between an area of ductal carcinoma in situ and a non-neoplastic mammary duct. Keratin 14 is expressed only by luminal cells in the area of ductal carcinoma in situ (left portion of the photomicrograph). The duct which appeared normal on the H&E section (right portion of the photomicrograph) lacks myoepithelial differentiation (absence of myoepithelial cells as assessed by the absence of expression of keratin 14 by myoepithelial cells). |
