Mammary gland: the mammary gland is effaced by a moderately cellular, encapsulated, well-delineated, expensile, multilobular neoplastic mass. This neoplasm is composed of branching ducts supported by a large amount of cellular stroma. Neoplastic ducts are lined by a one cell-thick cuboidal epithelium. Neoplastic ducts are often distended by a proteinaceous fluid. Neoplastic cells have ill-defined cell borders and a moderate amount of a strongly amphophilic cytoplasm that often contains lipid vacuoles. The nucleus is central, round, medium-sized and normochromatic. Anisokaryosis and anisocytosis are mild. A few mitoses (arrowhead) are detected. The stroma is abundant, contains numerous myofibroblasts, a small number of inflammatory cells, and loosely arranged wavy and thin collagen fibers. |
