Spindle cell carcinoma: this photomicrograph illustrates the presence of a few cells with an epithelial phenotype entrapped in a area that is otherwise exclusively composed of cells with a mesenchymal phenotype. There is gradual transition between the cells with the epithelial phenotype and the cells with the mesenchymal phenotype.
