Pathology Image Detail

Caption

Solid/comedo mammary adenocarcinoma: this photomicrograph illustrates an area of invasion of the connective tissue adjacent to the neoplasm. Invasion is characterized by the formation of small clusters of neoplastic cells that do not appear to be tightly surrounded by a basement membrane as in the rest of the neoplasm. There is prominent interstitial edema (clear spaces), mild interstitial lymphocytic and granulocytic inflammation, and prominent degeneration of skeletal muscle fibers (arrowheads) with centralization of their nucleus.
