Pathology Image Detail

Caption

Glandular stomach: this high magnification photomicrograph illustrates an area of atypia in an otherwise unremarkable case of cystic hyperplasia of the stomach. Cells lining this gland pile-up disorderly, have a cytoplasm more basophilic than the cytoplasm of the cells located in nearby gastric glands, have larger nuclei, occasionally are bi-nucleated, and have a high apoptotic rate. Cystic hyperplasia of the stomach is commonly associated with focal areas of atypia. Other changes consist of a mild to moderate interstitial lymphocytic and plasmacytic inflammation.
