Tongue from a 563 day old BALB/cByJ male mouse with squamous hyperplasia/metaplasia of the lingual salivary gland duct in response to impaction with foreign material (hair fibers). This is a severe version of a very common background problem in mice. It may appear as a raised nodule suggestive of cancer at the gross level. 25x magnification.
