Epithelial to mesenchymal transition in a mammary adenocarcinoma: epithelial to mesenchymal transition is characterized by neoplastic cells becoming spindloid and being surrounded by a large amount of fibrovascular stroma with a mild diffuse interstitial lymphocytic infiltration. Cells with an epithelial phenotype are present in the upper left corner of the photomicrograph. Spindloid neoplastic cells have an elongated nucleus that has a smaller nucleolus than the nucleus of epithelial neoplastic cells. |
