Pathology Image Detail

Caption

This is a duodenal polyp in a 619 day old P/J female mouse. Intestinal polyps are common in aging humans but surprisingly rare in aged laboratory mice. Mice carrying the mutated Apc gene (multiple intestinal neoplasia allelic mutation) do tend to get large numbers of similar polyps at much younger ages. The lesions get large enough to occlude the lumen and kill the mouse. This is a 10x image that is ahigher magnification of the lower left portion of the 4x image.
