Pathology Image Detail

Caption

This is the stomach from a 626 day old female SWR/J mouse. Note the proliferative lesion in the glandular stomach. Higher magnifications indicate that this is a gastric adenoma with areas in which there is prominent crystalloid formation. These crystals usually are YM1 or YM2 now called chitinase-like proteins. Their function is not known but they are commonly found in epithelia in mouse tissues. There are diverticulae associated with these lesions and often one or more partially digested hair fibers are found embedded deep within the adenoma with neutrophil or if long standing, macrophage inflammatory cells associated with it. This is a direct scan.
