Description

ear skin nerve sheath tumor

Age at Necropsy

808 days

Notes

This is a homogeneous mass of spindle shaped cells surrounding the pinna of a 808 day old female SJL/J mouse. The cells form whorls and fasicles and appear to be streaming off nerves. This is most likely a nerve sheath tumor although several immunohistochemical markers should be used to confirm the diagnosis. These types of neoplasms arise on the ear and tail skin of mice sporadically and while they often look similar anatomically, immunohistochemical patterns are often quite different.
