Description

duodenum hemagiosarcoma

Age at Necropsy

391 days

Notes

This is a segment of the duodenum from a 391 day old female PWD/PhJ mouse. Note the bulge in the wall due to expansion of a hemangiosarcoma. This is a malignancy of the blood vessels. There is a homogeneous population of spindle-shaped cells that form spaces of various sizes filled with red blood cells and lined by endothelial cells. The center is necrotic and has numerous bacterial colonies present. There is hemorrhage with digestion of the blood leading to the brown streaks in the lumen.
