Description

necrotic abdomen pedunculated lipoma

Age at Necropsy

555 days

Notes

This is a necrotic, pedunculated lipoma in the abdomen of a 555 day old female KK/H1J mouse. Note the loss of structure within the mass, the fibrous capsule and slight mineralization of the wall. This is usually a small lipoma, a benign neoplasm of white fat, that underwent a torsion of the supporting vascular stalk resulting in necrosis of the mass. These can cause severe problems when they wrap around the intestines to cause complete occlusion. This did not happen in this particular mouse.
