This is an example of myeloproliferative disease in an 854 day old old female PWD/PhJ mouse. Note the massive numbers of granulocytes (neutrophils) in the blood and throughout the organs illustrated. This is also the knee, stifle, joint. The joint space contains many more neutrophils than normal suggesting there is also an acute arthritis. However, the bone marrow is filled with neutrophils. By itself this may be a responsive effect but taken together with the systemic effects of large numbers of eosinophils everywhere, this is most likely a myeloproliferative disorder. |
