Description

humerus fibro-osseous lesion

Age at Necropsy

427 days

Notes

These are a series of photomicrographs from adult female C3H/HeJ (normal) and KK/HlJ mice (PXE). The KK/HlJ mice develop progressive fibro-osseous lesions of the bones. Illustrated here is the humerus from these two strains. The C3H mice do not get this yet the KK do and it gets progressively worse with age. Both have the same allelic mutations in their Abcc6 gene which probably is not related to this bone lesion. GWA mapping studies indicate an unrelated set of genes underlie this disease process.
