This is a tumor from a 718 day old female A/J mouse. The neoplasm was invading around the vertebrae, colon, skin, and vagina. In the rectal area the spindle shaped cells look more like the pattern for a smooth muscle cancer (leiomyosarcoma) or nerve sheath tumor. However, around the vertebrae it is more typical of a skeletal muscle malignancy (rhabdomyosarcoma), which is a common diagnosis in old mice of this strain. |
